Why Expositional Preaching is Particularly Glorifying to God

Millions of people in our day worship false gods and fritter away their lives on deceptive amusements. This desperate world needs one thing: the gospel of the glory of God in the face of Christ. In this message to pastors, delivered at the 2006 Together for the Gospel conference, John Piper reflects on the kind of preaching that our time—and every time—needs: not preaching that merely discusses or teaches or holds casual conversations, but preaching that heralds the weight and worth of God’s glory. He ponders the glory of God and explains from Scripture how people awaken to that glory. And he calls all preachers to the dual task of exposition and exultation: to explain God’s Word accurately and to exult over it appropriately.
