Don’t Be Anxious, Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

If you pursue earthly security by desiring and amassing earthly treasures, you show your devotion to money. But “you cannot serve God and money,” because if you require these treasures in order to feel secure, you are despising God’s promise that if he feeds the birds and clothes the lilies, he will most certainly feed and clothe you. Not only that, but the security you seek will elude you, because it is only accessible from God, who knows what you need and will supply it to you when you seek his kingdom and his righteousness first. These are eternal and secure treasures, without which you have nothing but what is rusted and moth-eaten. In these two messages, John Piper exhorts us to be free from anxiety, in faith, and to thereby detach ourselves from earthly possessions and generously distribute them as means of seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness, whereby he will be honored and we will receive treasures that truly satisfy.
